When it comes to twitter, I have been on it a total of about
a week and a half. I only knew one
person on twitter, which was a problem because when I signed up they had me
look up a bunch of people to add just to get through the setup. Now that I am on here, I haven’t figured out
many of the features that twitter features, but I can see it as a classroom
tool. You could use it like a homework hotline;
post the classwork and any homework on there daily. This way parents can have access to it so
that they and the district can keep watch on what is said on the social
media. It can also be used as a forum to
answer questions after school is out.
With so many people having smartphones they would always have access to
help if they needed it.
Here are a couple of sites on twitter uses:
Some of these are for college, but I feel that they can be
adapted into a school setting.
My twitter name is @aogo19
I am finding it is taking a lot of time to "get" Twitter. I am still figuring out the functions of the deck and not quite keeping up with the volume of the few things I am following. Our school has its own Twitter and Facebook that is updated with schoolwide announcements, but I have yet to figure out if we have different feeds for our individual schools. Have you found any interesting connections?
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of tweeting about homework. That seems like a great idea, to have parents follow you on Twitter so they can be constantly in the loop about what their child is learning at school, and any updates or reminders they need.
ReplyDeleteYou brought up a very good point. The fact that there is a growing rate of smart phone users and having the World Wide Web at our fingertips sure does help. I think twitter is great tool for online collaboration. Twitter engages students to come together by sharing links, videos, and other resources with one another.
ReplyDeleteI started following you on Twitter, but I don't see you tweeting yet. It will get easier to understand as the weeks pass. I have some more good Twitter resources posted for you to look at this week (week 4 in class). Don't forget you need post a minimum of 5 times per week!
ReplyDeleteI think using Twitter to connect with parents is a great idea. Any time we can find another route to reach out and connect with the parent will reinforce student learning and win us allies in the process of achieving an open classroom. Back in the day I always dreaded calling parents on the phone and found it largely ineffective in gaining insight to the child. I think Twitter would simplify the process.
